A Christian praying,kneeling and hooded (a monk?) hands clasped together, held high near the chin.Japanese, very rare. late Edo era, 1830-1860, no gesso, no paint, carved plain, weathered cypress wood.

Seated Japanese Buddha with mandorla of swirling cloud motif on a tiered lotus pedastal. Buddha has a crystal "third eye," gilt wood, hands held in "jo-in mudra," absolutely perfect condition. circa 1890. height = 20" beautiful detail of face/expression, wonderful patina.
