Kiriwood Japanese BUTSUDAN (portable Shrine) with swinging doors, contains a Buddhist deity "KoBo TAshi" holding a scroll in his left hand, seated on an elevated platform with traces of polychrome on figure & inside the shrine.Some wear as to be expected with a wooden shrine of this age. Japanese Kannon Bosatsu or Quanyin, "Goddess of Mercy," from the province of BIZEN. Beautifully modeled,wonderful chocolate brown color. Condition is good, but there is a 1.5" hairline crack (see pix #2) and a very small kiln crack on the left shoulder. Height is 8 inches or 20.3 cms. Circa: 1880-1900.

Extremely well cast bronze, Japanese, PAIR of HANGING CANDLE HOLDERS (Votive Lamps) from a Buddhist temple. These lamps are comprised of an upper part which has an intricately cast DRAGON MOTIF, among the swirling clouds just above the hook (see picture #3) The bottom section is shaped in an arch with a small circular cup to hold the candle. Japanese stone sculpture of Nyoirin Kannon or "Cintamanicakra" (in Sanskrit) first depicted in the Heian period (794-1185) in Japan. Sculpted 19th Century in Japan. Condition is good except for the loss of the apex (point) at the top of the mandorla. Height is 17.75" or 45cms x 12" (30.5cms) x 3" (7.6cms) in depth.

Japanese wooden, blacklacquer Butsudan containing a RARE STANDING BUDDHA in Vitarka mudra; with an mandorla of swirling clouds and shining light. The Buddha figure is in perfect condition, no breaks or repairs. The bronze engraved hinges and clasps are original and in perfect order. Beautiful faded golden patina. The black lacquer of the case is in an unrestored condition with no loss or chips. There is some fading to the sides and back of the case. Height is 9.5 inches.Circa: Meiji era.

An Avalokitesvara, Japanese KANNON BOSATSU, standing erect with contemplative face, lotus blossom and leaves in her right hand, flowing robes,standing barefoot on lotus leaf base. Beautifully modeled, color is a slightly bluish-cream off white. Condition: one small chip in the back of the robe (about the size of half a little fingernail) which is not noticeable from the front and side. Circa 1880-1910. Height = 15.5 inches.
