Japanese painting of a Chinese Motif, "Life's Pleasures," executed in colored inks on a brown silk medium. The 8 pleasure's are (starting in the lower right hand corner and going clockwise,) music, reading poetry, playing with a ball with friends, calligraphy, catching and releasing a bird, flower arranging, painting landscapes, playing the game "Go." Japanese SCROLL PAINTING on silk, of the classic rocky crags and cliffs surmounted with pine trees shaped by the coastal winds, with boats bobbing on a placid bay, a wooded rocky island,followed by the distant mountains which fade into infinity! Vibrant colors, wonderful perspective, expertly rendered! Two pages from an old Japanese Book,professionally joined and hinged in Japan, depicts a "Matsuri," of end of the summer party. Vibrant and alive with action,
from the grandpa and bald grandma through the middle aged to the young, vibrant and babies embraced...this scene comes alive!
The artist was "Matsuri," and the book was published in 1908. Condition is excellent, no foxing, or tears or repairs. Dimensions are 10.5" x 7.5".
