These Japanese IMARI matching baluster vases, circa 1890's are in absolutely perfect condition. Purchased @ Christie's in Amsterdam,(see Lot #120, Pg. 38, "Asian Ceramics and Works of Art," 8 May 2001.) Decorated with 4 shaped panels enclosing alternately a garden scene with song birds, and two dragons contesting the flaming pearl amidst clouds and foliage, enclosed by washed-blue bands below a dense foliate ground ro to the shoulder and the slightly flaring rim. A refreshing IMARI BOWL from Japan with two cracks which have been repaired which is somewhat visible. The central motif is a potted flowering bonsai plant, with three cartouches of a goose inside an enclosure with bamboo and other trees. One goose or perhaps a fat duck is upended downwards in the water. These same cartouches are repeated 3 times on the outside of this childlike bowl. Japanese porcelain bowl with bird and iris center surrounded by a cloud border. The exterior in a bamboo and flower design. Because of this bowl's age (pre 1868) the blue is from cobalt and not an artifical dye. Condition is not perfect. The glaze is in good condition but there is a stapled repair to a hairline crack. Circa Late Edo era, 1800-1868. Diameter=10".

Large (12 inches in height) KUTANI Japanese VASE with three cartouches, one with two kingfishers by a river and flowers, another a temple by the sea with mountains, and the last of fish underwater. The neck is decorated with phoenix birds and Buddhist symbols of scrolls. There is a Kutani mark on the bottom (see enlargement #4) Condition: some loss of decoration (color) on the neck and surrounding the cartouches. No cracks or chips or hairlines.

PAIR of Blue & White Japanese porcelain PLATES depicting an older Monk standing with a younger playful apprentice behind his back. All skillfully rendered in underglaze cobalt blue. There is a scrolling floral motif on the back of each plate. Condition: there is a rim chip on each plate, one with a resultant 3/4" hairline crack. Circa: Meiji era, 1868-1912. Diameter is 7.5 inches.

Japanese Blue & White Porcelain PLATE with deep scalloped edge. There is a coastal scene will hills and trees and ship at sea with an interesting bridge in the foreground. Condition: Overall good, but there is a hairline crack about 2.5" long (at the 10 o'clock position, between the boat and the mountains.) and a small "kama-kizu" (kiln imperfection) Circa: 1880-1899. Diameter is 11.25 inches.
