Japanese IMARI porcelain, rounded hexagonal VASE, with alternating patterns-two panels and the neck are of thick overglaze black enamel with white and orange & gold plum blossoms; the other 4 panels bear designs of "kiku" (chrysanthemum)and "botan"(peony) flowers and leaves and buds, all emanating from a single lower stem. PAIR of Blue & White Japanese porcelain PLATES depicting an older Monk standing with a younger playful apprentice behind his back. All skillfully rendered in underglaze cobalt blue. There is a scrolling floral motif on the back of each plate. Condition: there is a rim chip on each plate, one with a resultant 3/4" hairline crack. Circa: Meiji era, 1868-1912. Diameter is 7.5 inches.

Japanese Blue & White porcelain PLATE with a scalloped edge, depicting in a Zen way the "older wiser monk," followed by his "apprentice," both together, yet both off in their own worlds! They are, of course, in nature, by the sea, with boughs of sheltering trees, distant mountains, roiling clouds and a sun or perhaps moon high in the sky. This plate was made prior to German artifical blue dyes, it's the real thing, cobalt. Unfortunately, this fine speciman was broken ...click for details

These Japanese IMARI matching baluster vases, circa 1890's are in absolutely perfect condition. Purchased @ Christie's in Amsterdam,(see Lot #120, Pg. 38, "Asian Ceramics and Works of Art," 8 May 2001.) Decorated with 4 shaped panels enclosing alternately a garden scene with song birds, and two dragons contesting the flaming pearl amidst clouds and foliage, enclosed by washed-blue bands below a dense foliate ground ro to the shoulder and the slightly flaring rim. Japanese Blue& White DRAGON PLATE with slightly scalloped edges, in excellent condition except for one 2.5" hairline crack which is only visible from the back (see photo #4) Very striking design and effect with the real colbalt blue, not the German blue dyes which were widely used after 1870. Circa: late Edo era, 1840-1868. Diameter is 11.25 inches or 28.5 cms. Height is almost 2" or 5 cms.

Japanese porcelain HIRADO "Koro," (incense burner) with reticulation all over the lid and body, a molded flower on the lid, underglaze Hirado blue decoration on the borders and lion mask handles, tripod legs. Height is 3.5" (9 cms.) and the diameter is 3 1/8" or 8 cms. Condition is excellent, no chips, cracks or restorations. Circa: 1890-1910, Meiji period.
