This jar has seen wear. Some black lacquer is exposed where the orange-red has rubbed off with age and constant handling. The design on the top of the lid has also been eroded. Dimensions are 9" in height with a diameter of approx. 7.75" Circa: 1870-1920.
Burmese Lacquer TEA STORAGE JAR with lid, with a design motif of "ku-nan-kan-byat" or Yunnan semicircle design and Zodiac animals in the rosettes. Condition is worn, there are spots were the orange-red lacquer has been rubbed off with constant handling, and the black lacquer underneath is exposed. This Jar was cut at the collar and so it sits approx. a 1/2" shorter than it should.

Stone BUDDHA in Bhumisparsa mudra (touching the earth and giving witness style) from BURMA. This roughly carved Buddha is covered in black lacquer. Sometimes these Buddhas were covered in Lime (white) to protect (and disquise)the Buddhas from the various invasions they faced throughout their history. Original watercolor by a famous Burmese artist, Tin Aung Htaik, of the "Lei-Gwyayign Myo Monastery," which is located across the Ayayerwady River from Pagan, Burma. Pagan was as ancient capital(850-1300 AD) that was built by volunteer's contributions seeking "merit." This monastery is particularly intersting due to it's many gabled roofs, and it is constructed entirely of wood. Condition is good. Dimensions are 15" x 11."

TSUITEKI (Waterdroppers) of CATS. Two (one standing with the paw in the air and a bell around it's neck and another one sitting on all four paws, are dated 1740-1790 or Mid-Edo Era. Conditon is generally good. Some pitting, and some "kami-kizu," or "Kiln-errors." Dimensions of all are about 3" x 2". Circa:

Japanese 2 Panel screen, Suiboku-gwa (literally water & black ink) painting of a Plum Tree in early bloom in Febuary with a Sparrow about to land! This type of painting derived it's inspiration from the Zen doctrine of Buddhism. The background is gold leaf laid down overlapping paper squares, mounted on a wooden lattice frame.
