Japanese painting of a Chinese Motif, "Life's Pleasures," executed in colored inks on a brown silk medium. The 8 pleasure's are (starting in the lower right hand corner and going clockwise,) music, reading poetry, playing with a ball with friends, calligraphy, catching and releasing a bird, flower arranging, painting landscapes, playing the game "Go." The signature and artist's mark are in the lower left corner. Dimensions of scroll are 5 feet 1.5 inches in length ...click for details

Two Japanese ARITA porcelain "Suisaka" style flower VASES with a rich underglaze colbalt blue.
One is slightly larger than the other, though the shape and glaze are the same. Condition of one is excellent, no chips, cracks or fritting.The second has some "potting flaws," around the lip. Height is about 6 inches. Circa: Edo era, 17th - 18th C. See Christie's, London, Sale # 5968, November 4, 2009, Lot # 264 for similar ceramic "flask."
