| Northern Thai stonewear (Sawankhalok) COVERED JAR & lid with provenance, from the Arthur M. Sackler Collection item # 72.3.370 A and B (base & lid) purchased at Christie's NYC. The lid with a lotus bud handle and collar of the jar bears three ring handles with three parallel lines alternating with vegetal scrolls. The body is also covered with a band of vegetal scrolls. Clear glaze over both lid and jar. Some slight rim chips on the inside of the lid. There is no damage to the outside rim of the lid nor the inside rim of the jar. There are several small gouges or scrapping on the bottom of the base. There is also some "running" of the clear glaze on the outside of the jar when it was fired that caused some loss of the blue floral design. Dimensions: Height is 4.75 inches (12 cm) and diameter is 4 7/8 inches of 13.5 cm. Circa: 14-15th C. See Dick Richards, "South-East Asian Ceramics:" Oxford University Press, 1995, Pg.95, Plate # 37. | ||
