| Buddha in mahaparinirvana, Sukhothai style (Thailand) Sukhothai images are characterized by their perfectly idealized features. Those attributes are often explained in terms of the descriptions of heroes found in Indian Sanskrit literature: a head perfectly shaped like an egg; eyebrows elegantly arched like drawn bows; arms rounded and smooth, with no indication of veins, bones, or muscles; hands gracefully taperd and petal-like. The gently smiling high-classic figures suggest an otherwordly, spiritual detachment, foremost of all Buddhist virtues. Length of base = 24" by width = 7"x 7" height. Weight is approx. 30 lbs. not cast in a single piece. Some damage to the tip of the Ushnisha. With Certificate of Antiquity (over 100 years old) | ||
