Japanese Painting on Silk of LIFE's Pleasures
Japanese painting of a Chinese Motif, "Life's Pleasures," executed in colored inks on a brown silk medium. The 8 pleasure's are (starting in the lower right hand corner and going clockwise,) music, reading poetry, playing with a ball with friends, calligraphy, catching and releasing a bird, flower arranging, painting landscapes, playing the game "Go." The signature and artist's mark are in the lower left corner. Dimensions of scroll are 5 feet 1.5 inches in length x 29 inches wide. The dimensions of the painting are 28" x 25". Condition is fair. There are some slight wrinkles in the mounting. The overall color tends to be more dark than light which I attribute to it's age. Circa: late 18th to mid 19th century.
