Japanese KUTANI Figure of a Noh Actor - Meiji
Unusual Japanese porcelain figure of a Noh actor in a standing position with a fan just above his "pot-belly." Classic Kutani palette of mustard yellows, aquamarines, blues and black thick overglaze enamels. The skirted section of his costume decorated with sprays of reddish brown leaves - his coat is in black with yellow decorations. He stands in a very formal position and has a most serious demeanor to his expression - almost like he was posing for a photograph! Excellent condition, with no chips, nicks, cracks or restorations. Measures 9 3/8" (24 cms.) tall and is 3.5" (9 cms.) wide by 3.75" (7 cms.)deep. No Kutani mark, but clearly Kutani ware. Circa: pre 1920, late Meiji era.
