| Japanese earthenware WHISTLE (that works) from SETO in the form of a deity with bulging eyes, long beard and pot belly partially covered with a fan. This was apparently in use in the early 19th C. as an alarm while out walking at night or perhaps just for children to enjoy in the daytime! There are some losses at the back on the right side which are shown in the pictures. Well modeled, functional and unique! Dimensions are 2 3/8 of an inch (6 cms) x 1 5/8 " or 4.2 cms. 1800 - 1868, Edo. | ||
