Northern Thai pottery Covered BOX with provenance 14thC
Northern Thai pottery blue & cream Covered BOX with lotus bud handle with turned ridges and brown band(s) on the lid. A broad panel of vegetal scrolls on both the lid and body and brushed lines below. The splayed foot painted brown. The glaze is clear. See"South-East Asian Ceramics: Thai, Vietnamese, and Khmer," Dick Richards,Oxford University Press, 1995, pg. 91, plate 33. Provenance: Arthur M. Sackler Collection, # 73.1.4.A and # 73.1.4.B, ex-collection Estate of William H. Lautz, New York, Sold @ Sotheby's Sale 3574, Nov. 20-21, 1973, illustrated, Lot 359. Purchased in NYC @ Christies. Condition: There are nicks and chips to the rim and foot. There is crazing, losses and deterioration to the glaze and the decoration is faint in areas. Dimensions: Height is 5 inches (12.7 cms) and the diameter is 5 1/4 inches (13.3 cms) Circa: 14-15th C.
