Well patinated, three footed bronze censer with two handles cast in the style of a Shang Dynasty bronze, decorated with Taoist masks on the body, the straight legs without decoration. Song/Yuan. 4 1/2 in. diam.
Provenance: Salt Lake City, Utah estate Good condition. Either during or after the casting a crack appeared on the inside bottom of the body which was repaired and can be seen in the photographs. Otherwise, no damages or other condition issues. During the Song and Yuan period efforts were made to duplicate the types and styles of Shang Dynasty bronzes. This is an example of such works. Dahliantiques unconditionally guarantees each piece that it sells as to age, authenticity and condition. All of the Chinese art that it offers for sale were obtained over a 35 year period exclusively from sources in the United States, principally in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, from estate sales, recognized dealers and similar venues. The bronze offered here was located in an estate in Salt Lake City, Utah, the owner having spent time in China prior to the Second World War. |
