ANTIQUE 3000 YEAR OLD EGYPTIAN FIGURE WITH PROVENANCE
This is an Egyptian wood burial figure known as an ushabti. It is 7 1/2” high and dates to XIX-XX dynasty, 1320-1085BC. These were buried with a person in the expectation that they would serve the deceased in the afterlife and are sometimes known as “servant figures”. This one was purchased at Phillips in London about 30 year ago. It was owned by the very famous Egyptologist, Flinders Petry (who among other things, is mentioned in one of the Indiana Jones movies) and was given with two others by Petry to his friend, Luxmore Newcomb, a librarian. That information was printed in the Phillips catalog and we will so certify in writing, though we haven’t located the catalog. There were two great English Egyptologists, Wallace Budge and Flinders Petry. There is much information on Petry on the web and he was knighted for his work. Condition is as shown. KZ19
