Mrs Thorne (!882-1940) was a Chicago socialite and designer of miniature rooms, with several in the Chicago Art Institute. This box form diorama of an English castle and figures, and Mrs Thorne's signature, would have been given to friends and charities. Along with the box is literature pertinent to Mrs Thorne and her work. Gilt paper with minute bent edges, and some loose particles evident in movement. 6.75" x 3.75" x 2.50"

There is spectacular enameling on this oval form casket that is cradled between a Meridian Company (1869) frame with pierced wheel and ringed handles on a splayed embossed base with pierced trellis and rolled feet. The box would have contained the symbolic etrog (citron) for the 7/8 day festival of Sukkoth. 9" x 5" x 7.5" Fine condition.

The once interconnecting solid mahogany finely carved wood sections showing cherubs and lions masks and floral scrolling. They are of contintental origins, were most likely interior sections of crown molding, and are of considerable weight. One section has damage to both feet of cherubs, but not of a highly noticeable determent. (visible in photos) 55" x 8" x 3' Late 19th century.
