The birds vibrant color and the fascination of, which led to a technique called Tian-tsui on jewelery and decorative objects, caused the near extinction of the species.This crown from the early 19thc. is made in 3 interlocking sections conjoined. The floral kingfisher flowers are all present, but with losses, which is indicative of these pieces. 11 inches by 3 inches at highest point. China Early 19thc.

A red silk satin robe with satin stitch and heavy gold couching with dragons and auspicious symbols. Purportedly made for the Dragon Boat Festival (The 3rd largest festival on the Chinese calendar)The piece has a padded lining as well as a silk one, which has caused it to pull away in some areas of the sleeve and neck (indicated in photos)The exterior of the textile is in excellent condition. The front and back panels with an applied section of auspicious symbols in seed stitch and gilt couching. The red silk damask pleated skirt has a black border with polychrome satin stitch of insects and floral motifs and ribbon trim.There is a tear at the waistband and stains to the waistband. Indicated in photos. The remainder of the textile as well as the lining has no tears, or stains. 37 1/2 inches long. China Late 19thc.
