A Japanese Komai Style Damascene Mixed Metal Box
The box with a design surface of inner twining dragons and a repeating floral motif. The iron or steel base where threads of mixed metals are hammered into the surface is called Japenese hira-zogan). There were other artists working in this medium but the Komai family set the standards, thus the reference to this style of metal working. This piece is signed Made by Fujii on the underside. The under side has wear, and unfortunately on the one side the lid and base have a slight indentation. (See photo) 4 1/8" x 2 3/4" x l 1/8"
