You are considering a very attractive ancient richly decorated oil lamp lantern with a looped handle, large body with a square opening for inserting the oil lamp, shaped holes and decorated windows all around the body. The way the lanterns were employed was probably as a holder for the lamps.However, other means of lighting could have been used.
