You are considering a very attractive ancient richly decorated oil lamp lantern with a looped handle, large body with a square opening for inserting the oil lamp, shaped holes and decorated windows all around the body. The way the lanterns were employed was probably as a holder for the lamps.However, other means of lighting could have been used. The lantern could also have been used with coals or other means of making light

Found near Bethlehem around 4 miles south of Jerusalem, Israel
