| Talk about museum quality and well defined image! A medium green rectangular slab type pendant carved in low relief incorporating the natural curved surface, depicting a full-bodied, standing chief wearing an elaborate feathered headdress, ear spools and beaded necklace. Belted at the waist with a tapered loincloth. Perforated for suspension. Original polished surface, intact, exc. cond. Custom metal base. The time it must have taken to produce a piece like this always amazes me when looking at ancient stone pieces that were created with stone-age tools. I would guess that it took months to create this pendant and it was surely utilized by a noted royal or nobleman. Dated to the time of the zenith of the Mayan culture, ca AD 500-800. 3-1/8”H. x 1-3/4”W. | ||
