| Culture: Moche -- Period: Moche II, ca. 200 - 400 AD -- Region: Peruvian North-Coast -- Size: h. 17,8 cm - 7 inch -- Description: A fine, pottery, stirrup-spouted, figural vessel depicting a seated female holding a child in her left hand. Featuring a prominent nose, slit mouth and incised hair with one long braid over her back shoulder, the other over her right front. She wears a wide incised decorated necklace and large ear discs. Painted red-brown ground with cream and tan details. -- Condition: Some restoration to child's head and reattached and tip of nose, area of resurfacing to top of mothers head. Body repaired from ca. four large pieces. All very well done. -- Provenance: Ex-NYC collection | ||
