We picked this crocodile up while traveling in Oaxaca during the 90's, along with several other interesting figural wood carvings. While we're unsure of the wood used for this carving, we do know that the grain shows very well in the sunlight, and the entire animal is carved from the same piece. We tried to capture this in the photos, but think we were unable to. This wonderful example of a Teponaztli was acquired in Solala, Guatemala in the early 90's. Purchased directly from the performer, and likely creator, shortly after a village ceremony; this piece carries a hand carved inscription reading: Grupo Zijax Santiago Atitlan 3/16/81.
