A large Moche Janusform Ai Apaec Portrait head from Peru, ca. 400 – 700 AD. The vessel is 7" high, 7" wide and depicts the deity with serpents as ear ornaments. The large round eyes indicate a state of trance and the wave designs on the face relate to water worship, as well as the belief that Ai Apaec is in control of water, the source of life. An excellent Chimu shaman bottle from Peru, ca. 1100 – 1450 AD. This fine example is 6-1/2” high and is decorated with four different panels. The central panel depicts a shaman holding a staff, performing a ceremony. He is surrounded by a trio of sea birds, all set off against the characteristic stippled background. In excellent condition, highly burnished, with good mineral deposits and trails.

A wonderful incense brazier from the Guanacaste area of Costa Rica, ca. 1000 – 1500 AD. This gorgeous example is 15-1/4” long and features a beautifully decorated handle terminating in a serpent head surmounted with a two-headed zoomorphic creature. The bowl is 7-1/4” in diameter, with stylized heads adorning the spiked rim and raised appliqué ribs flowing underneath. Strong mineral deposits.

choice Gallinazo-Viru canchero from Peru, ca. 1 - 100 AD. This rare ceremonial water dipper is 10-1/2” long, it’s lentoid chamber is 7-1/4” in diameter and it’s extensively decorated with the traditional negative resist designs characteristic of the type. The handle is sculpted in the form of a nicely detailed fox. Small restoration, extensive mineral deposits, displays beautifully.

An excellent Moche III bottle from Peru, ca. 200 – 450 AD. It is 8-1/2” high and is decorated with a pair of nicely detailed lizards painted in red over cream slip. A lovely representation of the male-female duality motif in an unusual depiction, as the lizards are more commonly portrayed in vertical form. In excellent condition, with strong paint and mineral deposits.
