A fine Maya Chiefs bowl from El Salvador, ca. 400 – 800 AD. This lovely carinated example is 8" in diameter and depicts seven seated lords making an offering. The interior has four vultures, each with speaking symbol, surrounding a central Lamat glyph, which represents the eighth day of the ceremonial calendar and is associated with the Heavenly Dragon. A nice example with vivid paint, strong mineral deposits and just a minor repair.

A marvelous Maya ceremonial vessel from the Tiquisate region of Guatemala, ca. 400 – 700 AD. This double-chambered example is 5-1/4” high, 8-1/2” wide and features a beautifully detailed depiction of one of the Old Gods. The cream slip shows extensive remains on negative resist décor and is covered with strong mineral deposits. Intact, with strong mineral deposits.

An exceptional Maya polychrome vessel from El Salvador, ca. 400 – 800 AD.
This gorgeous two-handled olla is 6-1/4” in diameter and depicts the Hero Twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque on their journey through Xibalba, the Maya Underworld. They are superbly detailed, with their physical execution clearly depicting the motion of swimmers. An excellent Nayarit figure from West Mexico, ca. 200 BC – 300 AD. This superb Ixtlan del Rio example depicts an elderly female carrying a large jar or basket on one shoulder. A rare Moche deity head vessel from Peru, ca. 400 – 700 AD. This superbly detailed example is 5-1/4” high, 6-1/2” wide and portrays an owl deity. The curved beak is surrounded by piercing eyes and reptilian heads are used as ear ornaments. Minor restoration of rim chips, else in excellent condition, with strong mineral deposits. Cf. Larco Hoyle “Los Mochicas II”, page 344 for similar from the Herrera Museum.

A wonderful Maya polychrome vessel from the Yucatan region of Mexico, ca. 500 – 800 AD. This fine bowl is 6-1/2” in diameter and depicts three seated figures presenting ritual offerings in large bowls. They are wearing similar attire and headdresses and are portrayed in a state of transformation. The scene is painted against a white background, while the interior is painted black. Rare to find in such excellent condition, with good mineral deposits.
