A fine El Bosque rattle bowl from Costa Rica, ca. 400 – 700 AD. This unusual example of a Guacimo Red on Buff Group type is 7” in diameter and features a trio of protruding heads, each containing a rattle. Their formation surrounding the chamber creates an image of reptilian deities surrounding the contents of the vessel. Strong paint, heavy root marks and an old field repair.

A gorgeous Moche IV avian effigy from Peru, ca. 450 – 550 AD. It is 7-1/2” high and depicts an adorable duck. The wings and legs are molded in high relief, and the head is executed in fine detail, with paint used to highlight the eyes. In excellent condition, with good mineral deposits showing on the kaolin slip.

A beautiful Nayarit platform scene from West Mexico, ca. 100 BC – 250 AD. The group is 3-1/2" in diameter and depicts two men with their dogs. An ancient dog fight scene or just a friendly conversation? Either way, a wonderful rarity with great paint and strong mineral deposits.

An exceptional Moche IV figure from Peru, ca. 450 – 550 AD. It is 8” high and depicts an elaborately attired individual clad in layered garments. He is portrayed either playing a small drum with a stick in his right hand or stirring something in a container. The way the arms come out from under the mantle, leaving empty sleeves at the sides, is a masterful bit of sculpting. The wrapped headdress is secured with a bow tied at the back of the neck and a bulging coca bag dangles down his back. ...click for details

A choice Moche III marine motif bottle from Peru, ca. 200 – 450 AD. This superb polychrome vessel is 7-3/4” high and features two panels depicting a heron or egret attacking a crustacean. The scenes are painted in rare purple and red against the orange slip. In excellent condition, with good mineral deposits and trails.

A choice Chimu calero from Peru, ca. 1100 – 1450 AD. It is 4-1/4" long, made from a polished gourd and is complete with the wood stopper/dipper. It is decorated with a trio of pyro-incised birds. The fourth panel was perhaps not completed, looks like a stingray was outlined. A very rare type.

A matched set of fine Chiribaya polychrome vessels from the Moquehua area of southern Peru, ca. 800 – 1500 AD. The dish is 4-3/8” in diameter and is decorated with the traditional designs characteristic of the type, with a small zoomorphic rim adorno peering into the interior. The matching cup is 2-1/4” high and has a similar adorno and designs. In excellent condition with good mineral deposits.

A marvelous Narino bowl from Colombia, ca. 1250 – 1500 AD. This choice Tuza style bowl is 7-3/4” in diameter and is decorated with a dance circle depicting 10 figures holding hands. They are arrayed around a star inside a mesh pattern, which has both fertility and Venus connotations. In excellent condition, with strong mineral deposits.

A unique Colima zoomorphic effigy from West Mexico, ca. 300 BC – 300 AD. This rare vessel is 8-1/4” long and depicts a snail carrying its shell on its back. The artist managed to convey motion in this sculpture. Rare motif in excellent condition.

An excellent Kushan (Ghandharan) stone cosmetics dish from the Indus Valley, ca.100 – 300 AD. This lovely example is 4” long, 2-1/2” wide and is carved from greenish chlorite. It features a nicely detailed lion facing the hollow tray portion and an underside that is decorated with a floral or solar pattern. Rare type in superb condition.
