An excellent Moche IV Portrait head from Peru, ca. 450 – 550 AD. This eerie example is 7-1/2” high and depicts an ancestor in skull form. The jutting jaws display teeth and the eyes are deeply sunken into the head. He is adorned with a fancy headdress and ear plugs, with all of the details enhanced with black and white pigment. Great presence.

An exceptional Maya Monkey bowl from El Salvador, ca. 400 – 800 AD. This large example is 8-5/8” in diameter and features four animated monkeys appearing to speak to each other. They are separated by intricate glyphic or floral emblems and encircle a central area that has the outline of an unfinished figure in it. Above the monkeys is a band of guilloche designs with jaguar spots and the rim band consists of trapezoidal faces with backward C scrolls and date symbols. A lovely Maya polychrome bowl from the La Libertad area of El Salvador, ca. 400 – 800 AD. It is 5-1/2” in diameter and is decorated with diamond shaped floral designs that appear to grow out of the central disk on the base. In addition, there are three design bands encircling the rim. A rare type in excellent condition, good mineral deposits. Cf. Guzman “Museo Nacional de Antropologia”, page 46.

An adorable seated Colima dog from West Mexico, ca. 300 BC – 300 AD. This choice two-tone example is 9-3/4" high, is depicted seated, with the wagging tail and friendly grin creating a lovable demeanor. The highly burnished slip is covered with extensive dendrites. In excellent condition, with top of one ear cleanly reattached.

An excellent Olmecoid figure from Chalchuapa, El Salvador, ca. 1000 – 500 BC. This superb seated figure is 4-1/2” high and is portrayed with the arm held in a naturalistic position in front of the body. Her ears are pierced and light incising indicates a loin cloth. A rare Nazca canteen from Peru, ca. 500 – 700 AD. This choice example is 8-1/2” high and is topped with a spout in the form of a human head, typically thought to be female. One side is dark brown, the other cream colored, a reflection of the male/female duality motif. Perfect, with good mineral deposits and highly burnished slip.
