A superb Shipibo figural jar from the Upper Amazon region of Brazil or Peru, ca. 1940’s. It is 7" high, 6-1/2" in diameter and has a wonderful face incorporated into the broad spout. The influence of Andean ancestors is clearly recognizable in the facial characteristics and incorporation of tumi-shaped design elements. An exceptional Amazonian Indian ceramic polychrome olla from Brazil, early 1900’s. This superb example is 8” in diameter, 5-3/4” high and comes from the Asurini tribe, which apparently is no longer a functioning tribal entity. These magnificent jars were used to store liquid foods and are coated with a natural tree resin (post-firing), which preserves the brilliant colors and makes it leak proof.
