An exceptional Moche V Feline effigy from Peru, ca. 550 – 700 AD. This superbly sculpted animal is 7-3/4” high, 6-3/4” long and has a wonderfully expressive face. The dendrites and trails accumulated on the red slip create a fine visual texture. In excellent condition.

A lovely Colima dog from West Mexico, ca. 300 BC – 300 AD. She is 13-3/4” long, 9” high and is portrayed in an alert position, standing on all four legs. The head is nicely sculpted, with incised teeth bared in the open mouth. The rich red slip is covered with dendrites, creating the appealing visual texture that makes these effigies among the most collectible Pre-Columbian sculptures. Overall in excellent condition, with just a minor repair.

A rare early Moche figure from Peru, ca. 50 BC – 100 AD. This choice Moche I effigy is 6-1/2” high and depicts a seated individual wrapped in a striped mantle, with matching headdress. The face is expressive, with high cheek bones creating a sunken eye look and a wad of coca tucked into his right cheek. He has a bulging coca bag slung over his left shoulder and his hands are nicely detailed. In excellent condition, with strong paint and good dendrites.

An exceptional Zapotec mold-made figure from Mexico, ca. 500 – 900 AD. It is 3-1/2” high and depicts the Bat God. He is portrayed wearing a loincloth and is adorned with a necklace. The hands are sculpted in the form of peyote bulbs. A rare example in excellent condition.

An excellent Moche IV avian effigy vessel from Peru, ca. 450 – 550 AD. This choice example is 6-1/2” high and depicts a finely detailed vulture. The wings and facial details are molded in high relief and set off with white pigment. The talons are nicely rendered and he is wearing a necklace with pectoral, most likely indicating that this represents a messenger from the Spirit World, as vultures are typically connected to death and the Afterlife. A superb Moche V double-chambered whistle vessel from Peru, ca. 550 – 700 AD. This rare example is 7-3/4” high and depicts a vendor of funerary goods. His face is elaborately incised with ritual tattoos, including lizards and spiders, which represent Underworld messengers. Good paint and strong sound on the hidden whistle, which is a rather rare feature on Moche bottles. An crucial character showing the importance on ancestor worship in Moche culture.

An unusual Vera Cruz figure from Mexico, ca. 600 - 900 AD. It portrays a seated individual hunched over his updrawn knees. He is 6-1/2” high, is portrayed with what appears to be a bandage wrapped around his head and an expressive face that clearly communicates pain. Despite small repairs and losses to the back of the head, this is a wonderful sculpture that has great presence and displays beautifully.

A magnificent Chimu Crustacean effigy bottle from Peru, ca. 1100 – 1450 AD. This superb example is 8-3/4” high and depicts an 8" long shrimp with anthropomorphic facial features. It is sculpted in wonderful detail and the burnished slip shows extensive mineral encrustation and tracks. A minor repair to the spout does not show. Rare type!
