A superb Moche zoomorphic vessel from Peru, ca. 400 – 700 AD. It is 11-1/2” long and depicts a crocodilian, most likely a cayman. The head is beautifully detailed, the upper section of the chamber is enhanced with cream pigment, while the lower half is highly burnished red slip. Great example in excellent condition. See "Arqueologia Andina Peru", page 248, for a later Chimu example of this type.

An awesome Aztec ceremonial censor from Mexico, ca. 1300 - 1500 AD. It is 18-1/4” long and has a handle terminating in a nicely detailed jaguar head. The head retains extensive remnants of post-firing stucco/pigment and the burnished slip shows strong mineral deposits and dendrites overall. The bowl at the end of the heavy handle is 6-1/2” in diameter. Intact, powerful presence.

A lovely Colima female figure from West Mexico, ca. 300 BC – 300 AD. This unusual 10-1/4” high example from the Jalisco border region blends traditional Colima styles with attributes more frequently seen on Ameca types. The deep red slip is highly burnished and the loincloth is painted with black and white stripes. The coif is boldly incised and the shoulder scarification is executed with large appliqué pellets. In excellent condition, with strong paint and good mineral deposits.

A wonderful Moche III molded bottle from Peru, ca. 200 – 450 AD. It is 8-1/4” high and depicts a supernatural combat scene between two Demon Fish. It is interesting that the artist emphasizes the human characteristics by highlighting the lower extremities on only one side. A great scene in excellent condition. See Hoyle “Los Mochicas II”, pages 297 & 320, for similar examples from the Herrera Museum.

A rare Chavin portrait jar from Peru, ca. 1200 – 200 AD. This outstanding Cupisnique type example is 4-1/2” in diameter and depicts an individual with an incised coif surrounding the chamber. The incisions are highlighted with red pigment. The slightly asymmetrical facial features are created by hand modeling and skillful appliqué workmanship, the combination of which result in a face that is unusually expressive for the type. In exceptional condition.

An excellent Chimu zoomorphic bottle from Peru, ca. 1100 – 1450 AD. This fine blackware vessel is 8” high and depicts a skate, with the characteristic gills carved into the front of the chamber. Note the way the artist added adornos along the bridge of the spout, in an effort to mimic the thorn-like bumps found along the back and tail of skates. Rare marine motif, intact, with good mineral deposits.

An excellent Olmecoid – Proto Maya figure from Chalchuapa, El Salvador, ca. 1000 – 500 BC. This superb seated figure is 3-1/2” high and is portrayed with the hands resting on crossed legs, which are fully formed on the underside.
