An excellent Chavin stone plate from Peru, ca. 1200 - 200 BC. This choice Cupisnique type example is 9-1/2" in diameter and is made from a beautifully speckled gray stone. The interior is convex and perfectly smoothed, with just the minor pitting expected from this type of stone, which has fine Hematite and Pyrite inclusions. The small rim chip occurred in antiquity. A great example.

A fine Valdivia ceremonial axe from Ecuador, ca. 3000 – 1200 BC. It is 6-1/2” high, 5-1/4” wide and is carved from the speckled greenstone typical of the region. Nice example with good mineral deposits.

A lovely strand of Moche Sodalite beads from Peru, ca. 200 – 700 AD, but perhaps earlier. It is 16-1/2" long and is comprised of graduated beads in beautiful blue shades.

An excellent Maya boundary marker from Guatemala, ca. 400 – 800 AD. It is 9-3/4” high and is carved from dark gray stone with reddish encrustation. The figure is portrayed with a Mohawk coif, enormous ear ornaments and is holding an object, perhaps a rattle, in each hand. The protruding eyes and wide open mouth create an eerie visage of an eternal scream, perhaps intended as a warning against trespassers or a welcome to the Underworld. It has a very strong presence. Mounted on custom stand.

A choice Mezcala idol from Guerrero, ca. 1000 BC. It is 3" long, highly polished and is made from a lovely speckled, olive green stone. The features are beautifully detailed and it is portrayed with a small hat or ornament on its head. Small ancient chip on the feet.

A very rare Mapuche stone pipe from Chile, ca. 1200 – 1500 AD. This great piece is 4-1/8” long and is carved from beautiful green steatite, with black inclusions creating a great visual texture. The central opening is surrounded by a combination star design and anthropomorphic demon figure. The Mapuche were the only culture in the region never defeated by the Inca or conquered by the Spanish. A unique artifact in great condition.

A fine Mezcala idol from Guerrero, Mexico, ca. 1000 - 400 BC. This fine M4 type is 4" high and is made from a speckled stone (serpentine?). Arms and legs are clearly delineated and remnants of red pigment remain in the grooves, a rare feature. Mounted on stand.

This marvelous example is 2” long, is made from translucent speckled jade and depicts an individual with one hand held to his mouth. The headdress indicates the portrayal of a musician or shaman. A fine jadeite pendant from Costa Rica, ca. 500 BC – 1000 AD. This thin "blade pendant” is 3-3/4” long and is double perforated at the top for suspension. The dark green stone has a lovely calcified patina, evidencing water-borne mineral intrusion into the burial site. Nice example.
