An excellent Chavin stone plate from Peru, ca. 1200 - 200 BC. This choice Cupisnique type example is 9-1/2" in diameter and is made from a beautifully speckled gray stone. The interior is convex and perfectly smoothed, with just the minor pitting expected from this type of stone, which has fine Hematite and Pyrite inclusions. The small rim chip occurred in antiquity. A great example.

An excellent Maya boundary marker from Guatemala, ca. 400 – 800 AD. It is 9-3/4” high and is carved from dark gray stone with reddish encrustation. The figure is portrayed with a Mohawk coif, enormous ear ornaments and is holding an object, perhaps a rattle, in each hand. The protruding eyes and wide open mouth create an eerie visage of an eternal scream, perhaps intended as a warning against trespassers or a welcome to the Underworld. It has a very strong presence. Mounted on custom stand.

A very rare Mapuche stone pipe from Chile, ca. 1200 – 1500 AD. This great piece is 4-1/8” long and is carved from beautiful green steatite, with black inclusions creating a great visual texture. The central opening is surrounded by a combination star design and anthropomorphic demon figure. The Mapuche were the only culture in the region never defeated by the Inca or conquered by the Spanish. A unique artifact in great condition.
