A lovely Moche IV blackware frog from Peru, ca. 450 – 550 AD. This charming effigy is 7” high and portrays a nicely sculpted frog. He is depicted with peppers growing from his throat and yucca roots descending into the earth from his rear quarter. This effigy was designed to show the importance of water to the life cycle and the connection frogs have as a symbol of fertility. The highly burnished slip shows strong mineral deposits. A group of 4 Paracas blades from Peru, ca. 700 BC – 1 AD. They are made from obsidian and range from 1-5/8” to 2-1/8” in length. This hard-to-find type was used for cranial trepanation. Comes with display case.

See “Ancestors of the Inca”, page 105, for similar examples from the National Museum in Lima.

A lovely San Sebastian type seated figure from the Jalisco/Nayarit area of West Mexico, ca. 200 BC - 350 AD. He is 7-1/2" tall and is posed seated with one hand held to the mouth, the other resting on the knee. He is adorned with the characteristic multiple ear ornaments and beautifully executed coif extending down his back. In excellent condition, with good dendrites and decorative paint showing nicely on the red slip.

A choice Lambayeque (Sican) blackware bottle from Peru, ca. 700 – 1350 AD. This highly burnished example is 7-3/4” high and depicts Naymlap flanked by two of his children. He is elaborately adorned and has a pair of serpent heads projecting from his sides. A sweet Jamacoaque feline effigy from Ecuador, ca. 300 BC – 400 AD. This nicely detailed Pedernales style cat is 4-3/4” long and is mounted on a small platform, which has the characteristic textile imprint on the underside. A beautiful example in excellent condition.

An exceptional Chavin single-spout bottle from Peru, ca. 1200 – 200 BC. This highly burnished vessel is 8-3/4” high and depicts a pensive monkey seated atop the chamber, which is incised with characteristic geometric designs. Much of the original cinnabar remains in the grooves. The monkey is beautifully detailed and highly expressive. A wonderful example.

A choice Maya “Poison Jar” from the Tiquisate area of Guatemala, ca. 500 – 800 AD. This highly polished container with ribbed sides is 2-1/2" high, 2-1/2" wide and most likely was used to hold cosmetics or pigment and still retains traces of cinnabar on its exterior. In excellent condition.
