A wonderful Kushan stone carving from India / Pakistan, ca. 2nd - 3rd century AD. This Ghandharan schist carving is 6-1/2” wide, 4-3/4” high and depicts a scene featuring Buddha flanked by two acolytes. Buddha is depicted seated on a low platform, holding an object in his hands. There is a tower symbol on the left side of the scene. Beautifully detailed, with great attention paid to the folds of the robes, body positions and headdresses. A lovely example.
