A choice gourd Koteka (penis sheath or phallocrypt) from Papua New Guinea, collected in the 1950’s. It is 11” long and is made from a dried out gourd, Lagenaria siceraria. It is traditional clothing in certain New Guinea highlands societies and is worn without other clothing, typically tied in upward position. A superb carved wood Kohl container, most likely from Mor0cco or Ethiopia. The body is 2-3/4" high, 1-7/8" wide and is carved from finely grained hardwood. It's decorated with incised designs executed in linear patterns. Both stopper and applicator are nicely turned and match. In excellent condition, with a rich patina developed from long usage. Collected in the 1950's, museum deaccession.

A superb Bwami Society figure from the Lega tribe of the Congo region, 15-1/2" tall. He is depicted standing, with his wedge-shaped head sinking into the hunched shoulders. The hands are resting on his belly. The facial features are enhance with white kaolin and a yellow pigment. A fine old example in excellent condition.
