An exceptional Chavin single-spout bottle from Peru, ca. 1200 – 200 BC. This highly burnished vessel is 8-3/4” high and depicts a pensive monkey seated atop the chamber, which is incised with characteristic geometric designs. Much of the original cinnabar remains in the grooves. The monkey is beautifully detailed and highly expressive. A wonderful example.
