A marvelous Nicoya Polychrome tripod bowl from Costa Rica, ca. 800 - 1200 AD. This exceptional vessel is 6-1/2" in diameter and is elaborately decorated with two panels depicting finely detailed two-headed jaguars, separated by two panels representing the two-headed monster motif, an identifying characteristic of this type. The interior is decorated with a typical band of jaguar spots, executed in black over cream. In excellent condition, with vivid paint and strong dendrites.
