Moche Malky Vessel
A fine Moche IV double-chambered vessel from Peru, ca. 450 - 550 AD. This rare "Malky" vessel is 6-1/2" high, 8-1/4" long and depicts the mummy or spirit of a deceased ancestor. The face is unusually expressive for this type, with tears apparently streaming from the vacant eyes. The hollow head conceals a whistle with an eerie tone. His arms are painted in a superbly detailed Fineline style. He is holding a type of ceremonial object that is frequently seen on these vessels in his right hand and appears to be pointing at it with his left hand, which is adorned with finger rings. Great paint, strong burial deposits, a superb example.
