Okano Sekiho: second half 18th century

Nanga painter.Born in Ise;known to have been living in Kyoto about 1768.Doctor by profession;painted as a hobby.Primarily a landscape artist; greatly influenced by Ming painting.Though he is said to have written two or three books,none remain,and of the twenty-odd works said to be by him not all can be authenticated.Considered a pioneer in the field of nanga painting.Most of his pictures are small in size;the larger ones are less successful.
