This mirror typifies the work of the leading British Neo-Classical Architect and Designer, Robert Adam (1728-1792), who was born in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland and later moved to Edinburgh, where he trained under his father, who was an architect there. SOLD TO THE PERMANENT COLLECTION OF “THE WICKHAM HOUSE”, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA, WHICH WAS BUILT BY JOHN WICKHAM AND DESIGNED BY THE MASSACHUSETTS ARCHITECT, ALEXANDER PARRIS. THE HOUSE IS CONSIDERED TO BE ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF FEDERAL ARCHITECTURE IN THE UNITED STATES.

An exceptional English George III Pier Mirror with a red eglomise panel of gilt roses and cornice with spherules above a rectangular mirror plate flanked by ribboned columns. Original gilding with the rare manufacturer's paper label which reads:
"M. Gould & Sons, No. 78 Grace Church Street LONDON manufactures of Looking & Plate Glasses ALSO Concave and Convex Mirrors"
Shown in estate found condition and retains its original gilding and both mirror plates.
