A French Empire bronze ormolu figural mantle clock, circa 1815-1825,gilt bronze mantle depicting Apollo, the god of music and poetry. In Greek mythology, Apollo was charged to amuse the Gods of Olympus during theirs parties and to manage the Muses' choir. Winged, dressed in a tunic and crowned with flowers, he plays the lyre, one of his main attributes, finely chiseled with branches, small flowers and a mask. A very fine French First Empire ormolu mantle clock, circa 1800-1820, depicting a young winged Apollo, the Greek god of music, son of Zeus and Leto, and twin brother of Artemis, who is shown dressed with an antique tunic attached on his left shoulder, and holding a rose in his left hand.
