Pair of “opium scales” from Laos, these came from Luang Prabang but were used through much of Southeast Asia. Most likely these were used in everyday trading whether it was pork meat to big chunks of opium and are quite simple with lead applied to one end as a counterweight and the scale being measured in hash marks along the sides. The opposite ends have been inlaid with small rectangular pieces of a darker wood (possibly buffalo horn?), a subtle but attractive decoration. Some wear as to be ...click for details

Rare Chinese gray nephrite carving of a recumbent water buffalo with damage, (please examine enlargements). This piece could possibly be much older as this kind of jade was quite popular from the Tang to Yuan therefore the Ming dating is a conservative estimate. The stone on this piece is very good with the striations in the stone being natural and not dyed as is commonly the case. L: 6cm/2.4i ...click for details

Exceptionally fine and rare matched pair of porcelaneous quality Jizhou ware or related Jingdezhen kiln cups with white rims and dark brown glaze and russet splashes. The potting and glazing is very precise with a slightly everted rim near where the white and brown glazes meet. The white rims have an off green hued opaque glaze reminiscent of Qingbai wares I have seen. There are no repairs or damage other than some shallow scratches as to be expected from a used ceramic dating from the South ...click for details
