Fine and rare Yuan Dynasty azure glazed Jun bowl with purple splash and glazed “earlobe” above the foot, perfect condition. Please compare the bubbles and cracalature in enlargement #6 with an example from the Taipei National Palace Museum in enlargment #7. Jun was considered one of the official wares of the Northern Song dynasty and it should be noted that the in the Taipei collection they have reassessed the dating of Junyao to date only from the Jin to Yuan Dynasties, and utilitarian wares (b ...click for details

Fine and rare late Tang Dynasty shoe shaped inkstone, so named because it resembled the clog type shoe of the time. An historical aside; much of what is found in Japanese culture today traces its origins to ancient Tang Chinese culture. There is a flaw noted in enlargement #7, difficult to tell if it is a filled chip or just some impurity in the clay as it is quite hard and appears to be fired also has a very small chip noted in enlargement #8. Very rare collection of three circa Warring States/Han Dynasty high fired gray ceramic vessels with substantial traces of lacquer. Aside from a few chips on the mouthrims of the jar and one bowl the ceramics are solid and nice pieces in and off themselves. The lacquer is unstable but plainly visible, possibly some sort of artist’s fixative will prevent further deterioration. Please note second enlargement scale is metric.

Rare Southern Song shallow bowl with abstract prunus, clouds, moon in cavetto, and Chinese character in the footrim. Fired at the Yonghe kiln, Ji’an, Jiangsu Province, this is a classic piece, well documented in most books on Song ceramics but most notably in Chinese Brown and Black-Glazed Ceramics, 400-1400 by Robert Mowry, which has several examples. I was told when I acquired the piece that there is some restoration to the mouthrim, covering some fritted areas but having looked at this carefu ...click for details
