Exceptionally well sculpted stucco image fragment of a warrior from the Buddhist Gandharan period circa 100-200 CE, this piece is mounted on a wood stand. The face looks sweet but his eyes belie a fierce and determined expression. Most likely this piece came from Afghanistan. Minor damage to the hair, a classic piece, the Hellenistic influence is obvious. Unmounted D: L: 11.5cm/4.2in and H: 9.5cm/4.5in.

Three strands of Neolithic or Early Bronze Age shell beads i.e., pre Bactrian circa 2000 years or more from Afghanistan. Beads made of shells are the earliest form of human adornment discovered, some dating back as far as 82,000 years from Africa. I suppose there were some ancient proto hippies wearing flowers even older but these don’t preserve well. All these beads have been worked by ancient human hands to some extent or another for those who wish cogitate upon this fact. These are wearable ...click for details

Fine and quirky bronze image of seated monk, devotee, saint, acolyte or generic holy man with his hands held in the namaskara mudra. Elegant and simple this is a mysterious piece that can only be identified if seen in context with the other figures of an ensemble, (which I don’t have), this might well be a Jain saint. Anyway there is a small hole at base and dates to pre 18th CE. H: 5cm/2in and W: 4.1cm and 1.6in.

Fine and rare small bronze image of Annapurna; the Goddess of the hearth and food (as well a whacking big mountain range named after her). She sits holding a ladle with which she feeds the world, with an unlimited amount of food. She is an incarnation of Parvati, the wife of Shiva. Annapurna symbolizes the divine aspect of nourishing care. This item predates the 18th century with fine detail and patina- minor damage at base. H: 6.2cm/2.3in and W: 3.2cm/1.2in.

This Goddess is missing one hand and part of the item she is holding in the other hand of what I believe to be a ladle, ergo my attribution. Beautifully detailed image of Bhudvei. On the more mundane level she is the lover along with Shridevi another “consort” of Vishnu who is the Preserver in the Trimurti i.e. three aspects of Godhood. Brahma- God as Creator, Shiva -God as Destroyer are the other two, taken together they represent the cycle of existence. On the spiritual plane Bhudvei also is considered the Shakti of Vishnu which is to say she represents the manifested feminine power of Vishnu. Circa 18CE-19CE. Superb conditio ...click for details
