Fine old Dao Gong priest’s wooden stamp representing Pan Hung (Dragon dog) who is considered to be the ancestor of the Yao/Mien ethnic group. This item is carved from hardwood with Chinese characters on the bottom (which I assume was the owner’s name), and was passed over paintings and religious books during ceremonies by the Yao/Mien priest. This piece came from Northwest Vietnam and is circa 50 to 70 years old. Old and authentic Yao shaman’s paraphernalia has become nearly impossib ...click for details

Lovely carved nephrite pendant with classic “cat on a leaf” motif. This piece has been re-carved to appear as the cat is sitting on a peapod (peapods being one of the myriad of Chinese symbols wishing one to have many children), but was really done to hide the damage on the sides of a larger leaf. Anyway I think it works quite well- I was offered two of these at the same price but chose the altered one simply because it looked more elegant and I liked the carving of the cat better. Fine and rare old rattan basket from the Idu Mishmi ethnic group from Arunachal Pradesh, India. In India they are primarily animist but in China where they are known as the Lhoba have strong spiritual affiliations with Tibetan Buddhism, also it should be pointed out that the men are the principle basket weavers, while the women do the textiles. Google “Bamboo and Cane Culture of Arunchal Pradesh” and you will get a good description of this regional craft. As Sino/Arunacha ...click for details

Very rare ceremonial rice cutter from the Karen people (this particular one is from Northern Thailand). This knife would only be used on the first cutting of the season and as with most all of the rice cultivators in Asia there is a great deal of ritual and importance given to this act, regardless of the religion i.e. Buddhist, animist, Hindu etc. The bone handle, given its size, I am guessing to be from the leg of a muntjac (barking deer) and is most likely to be much older (circa 8 ...click for details

Rare semi transparent blue glass spiral glass ornament with finely “fluted” edge. I picked this up in Thailand and was attributed to being Dong Son culture (2000BCE-200CE). A lot of old things show up from Vietnam or Cambodia and are by default dated to this era. This piece may be considered a study piece or “fixer upper, sold as is”- please note enlargements scale in centimeters. Good ones with no damage sell for $2000-$3000.USD in the upmarket Asian Arts and Antiques Fairs.

Exceptionally fine and rare Khmer black lacquer “pillow box” with an abstract floral pattern. Definitely an old pre Khmer Rouge piece, dating 40 to 50 years old, possibly more. The unique decoration makes this a one of a kind piece, the construction is typically Cambodian in that it is constructed with thin small planks of wood and is coated with raw lacquer on the bottom, not to mention this was actually purchased several years ago in Cambodia, the attention to detail on the design is ...click for details

Three Xin Dynasty (3-23 CE) -coins in excellent condition. This brief reign is of historical significance as it marks the transition from the Western Han to Eastern Han Dynasty. Emperor Wang Mang was a Han noble who overthrew Western Han government and tried to institute many social and political reforms, among which was the currency system. His reign was short and apparently disastrous. Note scale is in centimeters.
