Fine lavender glazed brushwasher with apocryphal four characters Qianlong mark. If it was not for the intensity of the color on this piece and unusual shape, I would have no problem attributing it to Guangxu, however to be on the conservative side I am giving it a 1960s dating. Having said this I could be wrong and it might be Qing. The quality of the glaze and brushstrokes on the mark indicate that this is a very high quality Jingdezhen product. A copy, copying a copy as it were ...click for details

Pretty polychrome overglaze small plate with floral decoration. The rim has been ground to obliterate chips, nice job- old school repair. It would cost more than the price of this piece to get a craftsman to do this kind of work today. Blue underglaze private kiln mark on the back, late Qing to possibly Early Republic, from an old Hong Kong collection. D: 9.2cm/7.5in.

Lovely Guangxu porcelain bowl with polychrome overglaze decoration of two dragons facing a gilt flaming pearl, and four character of the period, Guangxu mark. This is a very pretty piece the colors are pastel and very subdued, for a Guangxu piece, which are usually fairly bright. The colors are all in good condition, very minor wear there are a few tiny firing bubbles on the surface as well as one tiny (1mm) frit on the rim noted in last enlargement. This piece is from an old Hong Ko ...click for details

Exceptionally fine, blue and white, Kangxi reign (1662-1722) censer with two dragons motif. This piece has been dipped in a white slip, presumably to give the body a smooth even surface prior to application of the glaze. The effect is quite subtle, adding depth and substance to the glaze. I purchased this piece from an old Hong Kong collection and was told that it is a Transitional- Shunzi reign (1644-1661) item. The clay underneath the slip and glaze is pure white and the dragons ar ...click for details

Very rare late Tang to Five Dynasties stoneware ewer with green toned glaze. There are some similarities to Zhejiang kiln firing techniques in that it is fully glazed with spur marks on the footrim (three crusty unglazed spots) also there appears to be some attempt to “tidy” up the foot right after firing. This is not a true celadon but from a Southern Yue ware affiliated kiln. I have a reference with an identical shape identified as Wuzhou ware dated to this period but only three qu ...click for details

Fine and rare Song Dynasty Qingbai jar with “eccentric” petal shaped rim with a stem, and delicate handles. The lid and jar are well matched but not ”married”- there are differences in the color of the clay and even subtler differences in the glaze although the style and potting techniques are fairly identical. (please see enlargements), most likely they are from the same kiln definitely and period. There is one damaged lug and a hairline (again see enlargements). H: 16.5cm/6.8in and ...click for details

Really big late Yuan Qingbai jar! Usually large Qingbai pieces are just glazed pottery but this one is very heavy bodied (2.7kg) with a dense hard white porcelaneous clay from Dehua or Jingdezhen. The shape and style has a strong Ming affinity ergo; the late Yuan attribution. The glaze looks better in real life than the photos indicate with a blue hue I am not able to capture. There are some large white “pock marks” on one side that appear to be kiln grit that has been pick out and t ...click for details

Superb early Southern Song, small conical bowl with incised abstract floral designs. Very thinly potted from rim to foot (please last enlargement), and classic aquamarine colored Hutian glaze- this piece epitomizes the elegant simplicity and skill of the Song Jingdezhen potters. There were a couple of “rice” sized chips on the rim, so a sterling silver rim has been added (personally I would not polish this silver rim and allow it to acquire a nice dark colored patina over time).
