Fine old Burmese lacquer box with a sieve insert lid, this piece is most likely from the Shan State and was used as a food receptacle, as the small holes would keep the bugs out. Circa 30 to 50 years old, it is very thin and lightweight and the body is constructed of woven bamboo. Beautiful Miao woman’s apron with black calendered cotton cloth, and green commercial (possibly polyester) border, and fine silk embroidered center panel with hand woven silk embellished apron ties, from Guizhou. The colors in center panel are particularly luscious and I would date this piece 30 to 50 years of age. W: 40cm/15.8in and L: 43cm/17in.

Interesting Jun glazed bowl from Shekwan. Difficult to date, oldish (at least 30 or 40 years- possibly even Republic). The glaze and shape faithfully recreates the Jun wares of the Song/Yuan era but the slip is a dead giveaway to its Shekwan origins. Fine and rare old Yao/Mien all hand spun and woven cotton wedding “veil” with silk thread embroidered geometrical design, circa 30 to 50 years old. Fine Vietnamese hand spun cotton with silk embroidery, skirt from the Tai Daeng ethnic group of north central Vietnam. Circa 40 to 60 years old in good condition except for a couple of patches on the hem. This piece has more silk embroidery than the other two Tai Daeng textiles on my site, and waist band is hand spun cotton as well. This piece is still sewn together. Good Vietnamese hand spun cotton with silk embroidery, skirt from the Tai Daeng ethnic group of north central Vietnam. Circa 40 to 60 years old and in good condition except for a small hole and some tearing at the top of the “store bought” cotton waist band. This piece is still sewn together and is gathered a bit where the waistband and skirt meet. H: 86cm/34in and W: 71cm/28in (x 2).
