Fine and rare old Yao/Mien all hand spun and woven cotton wedding “veil” with silk thread embroidered geometrical design, circa 30 to 50 years old. This piece is from northern Laos and is worn on top of the woman’s head on her wedding day. The colors on this piece are subtle and restrained (please note the use of shades of brown and blue in enlargements) and the brown and white tassels. Fine Vietnamese hand spun cotton with silk embroidery, skirt from the Tai Daeng ethnic group of north central Vietnam. Circa 40 to 60 years old in good condition except for a couple of patches on the hem. This piece has more silk embroidery than the other two Tai Daeng textiles on my site, and waist band is hand spun cotton as well. This piece is still sewn together. H: 79cm/31in and W: 63cm/24.8in (x 2).

Good Vietnamese hand spun cotton with silk embroidery, skirt from the Tai Daeng ethnic group of north central Vietnam. Circa 40 to 60 years old and in good condition except for a small hole and some tearing at the top of the “store bought” cotton waist band. This piece is still sewn together and is gathered a bit where the waistband and skirt meet. H: 86cm/34in and W: 71cm/28in (x 2).

Rare three paneled men’s wrap from the Nung/Rawang ethnic group of the Kachin State, Burma. The weaving technique and materials are quite unique which I have not encountered with any other ethnic group. The base warp and weft foundation is made from hemp fiber, the pile is made from cotton, and the finished maroon colored ends are finished in wool.
