Ming Turquoise Cizhou Meiping
stock number: 1128
price: $3000.USD/$23,000.HKD
description:
Very fine and rare porcelaneous cizhou type ware meiping vase with phoenix and cloud scroll pattern underglaze decoration and turquoise blue glaze. Ming Dynasty, circa 14th-15th CE. This vase is in outstanding condition for this genre as the glaze is stable and thick, there is some minor glaze loss inside mouth where it has been fired with a brownish yellow glaze which may be viewed in enlargements. Examples of this kind of this are in Jessica Harrison Hall, Ming Ceramics in the British Museum, He Li, Chinese Ceramics: the New Standard and a recent mainland publication Cizhou-Type Ceramics of the Ming Period 1SBN 7-5010-1714-X, of all the examples I have seen this is the only one with phoenixes. Needless to say this item is for the discerning collector. H: 26.4cm/10.4in and D: 16cm/6.3in.
