With extraordinary Gothic Revival detail, this double inkwell measures W:16" x D:11" x H:9 3/4". The twin lids open to reveal a pair of cobalt inkwells. It stands on lion's head feet. We can imagine this sitting on a bishop's desk, or perhaps HM's Chancellor of the Exchequer. It is in excellent condition with a beautiful, warm patina. Each vase, measuring 9" in height,and approximately 3 1/2" at its widest radius, has a blue-black ground with wysteria, iris and a swallow, which form a facing pair. A fine German Eighteenth Century inlaid mahogany bureau, circa 1780. The bureau is Georgian in form with a serpentine top and case over a base with bracket feet.
