This is an English sterling silver matchsafe from Birmingham with date marks for 1892-94. There is bright cut engraved decoration on each side and the front has a monogram reserve which has never been engraved. The top has a large jump ring which would allow it to be worn on a chain. The striker is on the bottom and appears that it might have had an old repair. The hinge works very well and the silver is in excellent condition. It is quite heavy for its size, 2.09 troy ounces. The maker is M& some other initial that I can't read. It measures 2 1/4" by 1 5/8" and has a thickness of 5/8". The jump ring adds another 1/2".
