This gilt brass box with a mother-of-pearl top inset with a painting of ivory of the Empress Josephine, dates from the time of the Second Empire, c. 1870. The interior has a purple velvet liner. It measures 4 1/4" x 2 1/2" x 1 1/2", and is in very good condition, only slight rubbing to the gilt.
